Privacy

In short

The site is made of static pages. There is no registration, no login, no comments, and we collect no personal data about readers. We do count how many people read each page, but without identifying anyone and without following you from site to site — how, is explained below.

Cookies

We use no tracking cookies. The only thing stored on your device is your light or dark theme preference, kept in the browser (localStorage) and never sent to us or anyone else. You can remove it by clearing the site’s data in your browser.

There is no cookie banner because nothing is written to or read from your device that would require one.

Readership statistics

To know which pages get read we use GoatCounter, a counter that sets no cookies and stores nothing in the browser. It records the page requested, the site you arrived from, the browser and operating system, the screen width, the language and the country.

Your IP address is not kept. It is used only, together with the browser, to generate a random string so that one visit is not counted twice; the underlying data stays in memory for at most eight hours and reaches no archive. These statistics cannot be traced back to a person.

The service is run by Martin Tournoij (Ireland) and the data sits on Hetzner servers in Finland and Germany, so it stays within the European Union. The script loads from gc.zgo.at and you can block it with any privacy extension without the site ceasing to work.

We count readers because it is the only way to tell what is useful and what is not. The lawful basis is the legitimate interest in maintaining and improving the site; as no personal data is retained, there is nothing to ask your consent for.

Server logs

The hosting provider logs requests, as any web server does: IP address, page requested, date and time. These keep the site running and protect it from abuse, and we do not use them to profile anyone.

External links

The site links constantly to official sources on other websites. Once you follow a link, that site’s privacy policy applies, not this one.

Your rights

Since we retain no personal data, there is no archive to find you in: there is nothing to access, correct or delete. If we later introduce advertising, this page will be updated before that happens and, where the law requires it, you will be asked for consent.
